12/20/2011 10:49:13 PM One more map is finished

We are finishing the map in Palma de Mallorca (Spain)
After 3 weeks of intense work, we are finalising another map.
It was really challenging this work.
Is the first time that I visit this beautiful island and was a surprise for me, check the quality of the terrain that exist for the practice of orienteering.
I think that in the future, this could be a target for training and competition of this modality.
I hope so.
See you soon in Portugal.
A Merry Christmas to all.

12/9/2011 10:21:55 PM First fifteen days in Palma de Mallorca

I am in Palma de Mallorca for 15 days.
The work is going well, but the terrain does not allow much faster.
There are areas too steep and there are other areas that are covered with dense vegetation.
It is the first time I worked in this part of Spain and I'm very excited, hoping that the final work, is pleased to Orienteering Federation of Balears.
I hope to return to Portugal before Christmas.
See you soon

Hola Rui ¡!!

Also wanted to write you to congratulate you for Campdevanol maps.
I am very pleased in every way: contours, vegetation and singular elements. I understood everything that was shown on the map and when I made an error (middle distance) was my mistake because I did not do a correct direction.
I think everyone ended up very pleased with the championship and with maps. It was the impression I got.
I have not spoken much with the organizers because there was no negative complaints on the map. So I think they were all satisfied.
There were many people, more than 400 people participated, including runners from other countries

Annabel

11/7/2011 9:21:00 PM Championnat de Sprint LIFCO

On September 11, held the Orienteering Championship League of  the France Island.
This race consisted of two legs and took place in the beautiful village of Grez sur Loing.
The responsibility of this organization came from the Balize77 Club, and took place on a map made by me in March 2011. You can see the map with course H21 and a comment from Sandra Olivier, course planner and Strong runner with several podiums  in the championships of France and WMOCs.

Sandra

everyone was super happy with my courses and your map. Some, said the 4000 scale, it would be best to read the fine parks! étainet circles as tight!

More than a finished map. Me and Batista
This map is located in the Burgos region to about 70 Kms
The terrain is an area covered by millennial oaks.
Beautiful area and great for orienteering.
Situated on a hillside and is very technical due to the amount of rocks, cliffs and stones that abound in the southern half of the map.

9/15/2011 4:40:44 PM Lady Sandra Olivier opinions about my work

Asked Madame Sandra will give me your opinion about my work and my way of working.
The Madame Sandra is Director of Balize77 Club and responsible for a project (Recloses, Grez-sur-Loing, Castle Park)

Here let their views, first-person.

Sandra OLIVIER

This short  sprint map had matured in my head for a very long time. The Rui implemented this project with speed and efficiency, always careful with our criticisms and proposals. I'm looking forward to organize the regional championship sprint in this map, hoping the runners will be as pleased as I am.

Sandra Olivier

Recloses to the letter that was on a scale of 1:10,000 and difficult to read because of the rocky areas, Rui did an excellent job on the scale of 1:7.500. It seems he made some progress since his first visit to Le Petit Mont Chauvet and Mare des Pressoir, where he came back voluntarily, to make some adjustments. His company was agreeable, and the "dish Rui" was very good, at last with my help!

Sandra Olivier

9/15/2011 4:27:07 PM Fontenebleau - Part 2

Finally returned to Portugal.
As was planned, completed the two maps were missing. Les and Le Mont Ecouetes Pierreux / Ussy.
There were two maps that are similar to those that exist in all Fonnebleau, can simultaneously be different.
Rocks, many rocks, rock faces and clifs.
They also have many (some) details of micro-relief.
Normally, I do not like this kind of maps in Portugal, because in general have no forest. Unlike these, are almost in its entirety and completely open for easy visibility.

To implement these two maps, used as base map (old maps)
For the first (Ecouetes), I used an old map on file.
Unlike others, had not many distortions and fieldwork was therefore a little easier.
For the second (le mont Pierreux) used a map old (very old) that has only existed on paper and almost was unreadable.
It was a much more time consuming but so very challenging.

In my opinion, the forest fontenebleau, owns land with almost all the features for the practice of orienteering.
It is no coincidence that almost all great athletes for orienteering to come to train here. Here also join many of the best lovers of free climbing.
I too was in love with this sport.

Finally, I want to thank the kindness and gentleness with which I was treated during my stay at the home of Mrs. Sandra Olivier.
The whole family was exceptional for me.
I leave here my thanks to Mrs. Sandra, Hughes, Cedric and Lukas.
Asked Madame Sandra will give me your opinion about my work and my way of working.

9/15/2011 4:21:02 PM Commentaire par BRUNO COTTRET sur la carte Catus

Bonsoir Ruy,

9/15/2011 4:02:15 PM Comment about my work

Mr. Greg, President of Orienteering Association of Nova Scotia, made at the end, some comments by giving their opinion on what he thinks of my work.
Thank you Mr. Greg;

Thanks for the help with my event!!! Very much appreciated!

Here is my comment:

On August 1st 2011 the Orienteering Association of Nova Scotia, Canada hired Rui Antunes based on what we had seen on his website to complete a 7.5 km area for
a competition. We had an old 1977 map but it was quickly decided that the old map was very bad and that a new map would have to be made from scratch. We were very pleased that Rui could use aerials and local cartography to create a new base map he could work with. He worked very hard and diligently every day he was here, covering some very steep contour areas as a large part of the map is a ski hill. His work is very clear and easy to interpret and follows IOF standards. I am pleased to say we hope to have him back soon to do more work in the area and possibly share him with another club close by in New Brunswick. Rui is a patient man and has a very good sense of humor. He manages very well in English and had no problem with our Canadian food and strange customs. Thanks Rui, it was a great experience!

8/29/2011 6:43:49 PM Flight Cancelled

Right now I'm trapped in Pugwash in Canada a few days, due to the passage of Tropical Cyclone "IRENE."
It's always a bit difficult for me when I finish my work and I can not quickly return to my country.
In this case, the family of Mr. Greg Nix has been exceptional for me.
I'm at home, but as it was in mine.
Everyone has been very friendly and have helped me to forget the moment I can not return.
We will continue to researches the Internet, to check if things are changing.
My flight makes a stop in Philadelphia and I think that exacerbates the problem.
Anyway, the Cyclone also has been felt here, in the form of rain and gusts of wind strong enough and intense.
I hope to return soon.

8/29/2011 2:32:00 AM At least I try!!

It was not easy to drag over this object (small?)
Are they the remains of a vehicle of World War II?
Will the past there was a rally here that was not good to anyone?
Have been growing area in the past? And is lost in some wagon wheels?
Or will have been here a gym? Are the lat pull-dawn?
It was not easy to drag it to the nearest road.
Now, I hope someone with knowledge that pass through there, make an effort to try to pull away.
THE NATURE THANKS
See you soon

8/28/2011 12:29:31 AM Secrets of Nature

In my wanderings through the woods more diverse, I have the privilege of seeing great things.
This is another wonder of nature.
I am convinced that these phenomena can hardly be repeated in our eyes.
Here's to confirm (photos below)

8/25/2011 2:29:09 AM Last week in Wentworth - CANADA

I'm the last week of work-Wentworth.Wentworth has a population of about 300 people.Located in Nova Scotia and 150 km from Halifax.
I feel very tired, but satisfied with the work.
I'm staying in a hostel (international hotel "HI").
The Wentworth Hostel is the first Hostel in Nova Scotia and the oldest operating hostel in Canada. In 2012, HI- Wentworth Hostel will celebrate 50 years of serving travelers.
I want to give my thanks to Mr. Greg Nix, because it was tirelessly to solve all the unexpected situations.
I'll be eager to return one day, for work or holiday.

8/19/2011 2:52:01 AM Curiosities

In my daily wanderings through the forest every day I see unexpected things.
Or is the previously mentioned garbage, a lot of garbage in some forests of any country. Also I encounter from time to time with the natural inhabitants of the forest. They really like to see.
Stand here today, more unexpected than a curiosity that is registered in the photo below.

See you soon;

8/11/2011 2:59:13 AM Features of the terrain Wintworth Map

The terrain is quite interesting, because it has constantly changing vegetation type and luminosity. To get an idea in recent days of rain in the afternoon the visibility is very low.
As the base map is already very weak, the difficulties increase substantially.
For the most part is also very uneven and also has some details of relief, rocks and cliffs.
The rest will see the runners, when lingering to run it.

See you soon;
Rui Antunes

8/8/2011 9:55:26 PM Lots and lots of rain

Definitely, I'm out of luck.
After the problems with the flight, my printer broke down (perhaps due to differences in electric power), but now the rain, heavy rain in August? I honestly did not have one more surprise.
Anyway, this morning I was still working, but after being all wet, I returned to the hotel.
I hope that tomorrow the sun come back because I have a lot of work to do.
I wish much luck to Paul Franco athlete of my club (COC) which will represent Portugal in the WOC to be held in France from the weekend.
Also for all my other friends, I wish much success.

See you soon;

8/7/2011 3:07:16 AM Wentworth Map - Nova Escócia

 Hello;

After the year 2010 I traveled to Brazil, Santa Cruz do Sul, where I taught a Clinic (IOF Adviser), the next day  1st on August, I will travel to Canada - Nova Scotia to make my map Nº. 124 and 12th the year 2011.
I will use as a base map, a ortophoto with very little visibility, but I hope still do a good job.
This is the estancia sky Wentworth, located in Nova Scotia.
It will be my first map outside Europe and hopefully be successful.
I hope to get more news here during my stay at Wentworth.

See you soon;
Rui

8/7/2011 3:05:53 AM Travel complicated

After a very long flight and some difficulties, here I am in Wentworth, Canada.
I installed a rural hotel a few kilometers of terrain map.
In it lies a resort of Sky.
So just have to be quite unevenness.
After all, the terrain is clean in general.
To begin, my printer broke down. I am waiting for Mr. Greg once again help me to solve this problem.
I'm not happy, because right now, should be working in the forest.
See you soon;

7/25/2011 4:21:03 PM CAMMAZES MAP:

As planned, after the end of the map (Green Lake-Catus), travel about 200 kilometers to the southeast.
We installed on Camping Soureze.
Here we had a bungalow with excellent conditions for doing our job.
This map is situated at an altitude of 600 meters and was mostly covered with oaks and some other hardwoods.
The base map we used was an old map and ortophotomap.
It is one map that presents no technical difficulties, but which can become very interesting if the course planner careful in their planning.
Being a map physically very demanding and with poor visibility, the planner can take advantage of it and draw some very interesting and challenging courses.
I think this map in the future will surprise even those who already knew him.
I hope yes.

7/22/2011 5:58:30 PM Mapping like loneliness;

Many people, I would say most of the orienteering runners, using a map, and can not imagine even thinking about the necessary steps to that piece of paper to be done.
I refer particularly to the field work.
It is a very thorough job, sometimes very difficult and sometimes also quite dangerous.
Are hours, days and sometimes months of solitude in the woods in search of any detail of interest to print the map.
I personally have the privilege of doing professional level mapping and I feel great pleasure each time I get up in the morning and another day I'll start mapping.
I leave here an example of this loneliness that I speak in the photos are below.

See you soon;
Rui Antunes

7/17/2011 12:15:18 PM Homecoming

Finally, I am in my house again.
We finished the maps for the club Aligots and I now have a few days of rest before making another trip, this time a little longer.
Next destination: Canada - Nova Scotia
Also in the latter work, I wish to thank David and Narcis by the deanery have the best conditions to accomplish our work.
It was a pleasure working for this club for the third time. I guess this means we are both satisfied with this relationship that has lasted for 3 / 4 years.
When I conducted the first map to Aligts (Vallfogona de  Ripollès) was a small club with great ambition to grow.
This year, I heard their leaders, telling me with great pride that we are the biggest club in Catalonia.
I am too very happy and give them my sincere congratulations.

7/12/2011 3:50:23 PM Campdevanol/Média Distancia-Tipo de Terreno/Campdevanol / Midle-Distance Type of Terrain

For runners get an idea of the type of terrain they will encounter, here are a piece of map.
Of course, as I said before, there are also other areas where visibility is greatly reduced.
Good luck to the runners and organizers.
Tomorrow I'll put a piece of map of the long distance.

7/4/2011 11:25:33 AM Map of Las LLOSA

Tomorrow Tuesday, will do one month what we are working in the beautiful Ripoll region, near Girona and about 100 kms from Barcelona.
We are working on the second map that is intended to realization the race of Long Distance Championships in Catalonia.
We work at an altitude of 1300 meters and here the terrain is very varied (rocks, stones, details of relief and a lot of slope) and so work is being done very slowly.
I am convinced that this is the perfect ground to find for the best and most complete athletes of Catalonia.
In November, we know them.
See you soon.

Boa Tarde Rui,

6/27/2011 5:42:02 PM Campdevanol(1)MAP OF THE CATALONIA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Day 14, will make one week we will make the first map of Campdevanol.
S. Peter has helped us not and has rained a lot. Therefore, we only get three days work.
We are housed in Sant Joan de les Abbots, a town situated about 15 Kms from the map.
The terrain of the map is very steep with little visibility in some areas. So we have to do the work very slowly.
Today, despite the local weather is going to hear thunder and rain throughout Catalonia, let's try to work the land.

It was very bad idea we went to the ground today.
We decided to walk up the hill and everything was going well. Suddenly, and as announced, first began to thunder and then to rain.
Result: We were completely wet the second time in three days.
Tomorrow we will insist and expect to have more luck.
This first map is where you will complete the proof of the average distance of Catalonia Championships 2011 (Novembro2011)

6/6/2011 10:55:55 PM Project Campdevanol

07/06/2011 day tomorrow day 07/06/2011, I will travel to region of Girona (Midi-Pyrenees)
I will accompanied by another mapmaker (José Batista) and we will make a map with about 7 Kms
The region is very mountainous, but it seems to me (in the base map) quite interesting and we will put immense challenges. I like that.
Soon, I will give news
Until then.

6/6/2011 10:17:50 PM SOREZE (SPRINTMAP)

This map was made based on an old map.

We redid the whole map, using pictures from Google Maps.

Also, the redesigned obey the rules of ISSOM 2005.

A third map of forest that was part of this project was not done because there were problems with the owners of the land.

Thanks to Mrs,

Christian Segonne and Laurent Audouin their cooperation and support they gave us during our work.

5/16/2011 10:10:41 PM First map of Catus Project

Today Monday 14/05/2011, we finished the first map in the region of Cahors (Catus).
It is a map with details very different from those who had the last I did in Fontenebleau.
This time, as always by lot happened to me the northern, more mountainous and closed.
The ground is usually covered with oak and other hardwood species.
Some areas, though white, they have total visibility. But also in light green, it is possible to run at 100% almost in its entirety.
There are also some small rocky areas, many stone walls and too many small ruins likely in the past have served as hiding place for the pastors and also for animals.
Tomorrow we will travel two hundred kms southeast to the Castres region.
Let's do three more maps. Two a forest and one of Sprint.

Hope to giving news.

See you soon;
Rui Antunes

4/29/2011 10:06:53 PM Sad reality

During all these years I've been wandering for several European forests, I have often faced with various situations which for me should not happen now.
I'm talking garbage.
Yes! Often, I meet a lot of garbage and in places where it seems impossible.
Within the forests, I have seen everything.
I think over the years, I have already moved to close the roads, a few hundred pounds of garbage.
In related photos, you can see the most varied objects.
If I continue with this, my stubbornness, subjected me to be better known as the cleaner of forests than as a mapmaker.
Still, I can not resist picking up a bottle or other object and place it next to any one path.
I still have the hope that those responsible will be easier to see and transport them to a suitable location.
I wish the other mapmakers, also help our forests stay cleaner. Transporting the trash, but also raising awareness with this type of action.

2/22/2011 5:15:23 PM My First Map of 2011 is made

Today, I finished my first map of 2011. Is my number 112.

It´s a small map, located on the mountainside Alvão(Natural Park)

Very technical terrain in the east part, and more open in the West part.

Again, bad weather did not let me. A lot of wind, rain and cold, were present.

This work, was a good experience for my future work in similar terrain in France.

You can see a piece of the map and some photos on maps list.
